Gorvi presents Bioplex: a cutting-edge upholstery fabric
Gorvi, a synthetic leather manufacturer, is currently presenting a revolutionary new upholstery fabric called Bioplex, the result of an agreement reached with Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd., a member of Japan’s second biggest petrochemical group.

Thanks to Idemitsu Kosan, Gorvia will be able to use an innovative protein designed by the Japanese company to create a whole new range of Bioplex products and be exclusively responsible for commercialising them, in conjunction with companies from the Mecaseat Group to which it belongs, in Europe, Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean area.

When used for suites, sofas, chairs, armchairs and wall coverings, this material offers benefits that synthetic leather has never before been able to achieve, such as the highest known capacity in synthetic leather to absorb moisture and a high ability to dispel static electricity, which gives it added convenience and a smoother, drier, velvety feel, plus a very natural looking matt finish.

All these characteristics make Bioplex the material with the closest finish to real leather on the market today. Furthermore, depending on the customer’s needs, Bioplex’s level of moisture absorption, feel and shine can be adapted (for suites, sofas etc).

Bioplex avoids the losses in productivity that occurs when genuine leather is used as upholstery, since series can be standardised. A respect for the environment is also ensured in the manufacturing process of this new fabric, since renewable material of a natural origin is used. As a result Bioplex was selected to receive the Recycling Sources and Systems Award by the Japanese Ministry of International Trade & Industry’s Environmental Protection and Industrial Location Bureau. We should also add that the technology and materials used to develop Bioplex help to reduce pollutant emissions more than other industrial processes for the obtainment of similar materials.

The facilities of Gorvia’s main manufacturing centre on the Landaben Industrial Estate, in Pamplona (Navarre, Spain), cover an area of over 25.000 m2, with a workforce of more than 100 people who produce some 30.000 m2 of coated fabric per day.

Gorvi currently offers a range of about 1.700 different products and it holds a leading position in the Spanish upholstery market for the hotel and catering trade and interior design sector. Its products are exported to all five continents.
